Ripe for a remake

Just watched Smiley's People and thought about the several excellent movie or TV adaptations of LeCarre's books.

And then I remembered this stinker.

It won't chip, peel, blister, crack, flake or rust in any way.

The book was supposedly Lecarre's most realistic depictions of British Intelligence (and ironically one of his least successful books). Real life is waaaaayyy to boring. Still, I'd like to see a remake.

We want martini's ,girls, and guns. not realism. Big mistake.

I'll take great story, intelligent dialogue and superb acting over those any day of the week, and twice on Tuesday.

This felt like a Merchant & Ivory picture.

I agree although I enjoyed this movie a lot.

I presume a remake would have to come out better. The story (as presented in the movie) was very uninvolving. I'm likely to have forgotten about it entirely by the end of the week.
