DVD release date?

Anyone know the date for DVD release? It was due sometime in 2004 or 2005 but nothing official yet... I've heard of bootleg VHS copies around. "A Hard Day's Night" and "Help" are already on DVD.

reply

Really? "HELP!" is still in print? I thought it was taken out ages ago!

Any new news on the possible release of this movie on DVD?

I bought a DVD on Ebay, perfect condition brand new. I checked today, and there are alot of listings on Ebay with varied prices. There is one right now with no bids at $9.99 and it ends in 11 hrs. Good luck!

I got a DVD off ebay as well. It is a copy of the laserdisc version. The quality is ok but in the end I'm just happy to be able to watch it.

reply

You are kidding right? You know this only exist as a bootleg right? The only copy you would get is DVD-R.

I heard a rumor that around the time the CD 'Let it Be...Naked' was being released that Paul & Ringo were going to be supervising a new extended print of "Let It Be" for DVD. I myself have a VHS copy of the film (NOT a bootleg, believe it or not. I got mine from a video store that was going out of business for 10 bucks!) and I would love to get it on DVD - let's hope the rumors are true!

BTW, why wasn't the legendary bootleg track 'Suzy Parker' included on the "Fly on the Wall" disc of 'Let it Be...Naked'? I mean,it's been bootlegged since the early '70's! I just love that weird little track!

I can only hope this is true...

I read that article too. It's about time.
In the article 'The Concert for Bangladesh' was said to be released too. It was announced a few days ago so now it's time for the Let it Be announcement.

reply

They mention the release date for Bangladesh on www.thebeatles.com but no mention of Let It Be, which is a bit of a worry.

Found this recent article today... Looks good for September, hopefully!

Help! is out of print on DVD and I don't believe it ever had an 'official' release in the U.S. You can find 'used' (read: Bootleg) copies for sale from private parties on Amazon.

I am from the UK, and there has been talk of an American release date. Does anyone know what date it will be released here ?

reply

Hi

I've got no idea about the date of DVD release. But, I too am from the UK and am aware that about 20 years ago the bbc showed the movie on a Saturday afternoon on bbc2. Perhaps we should ask the beeb for another showing...they could have it as part of a Beatles weekend and showcase there excellent "Beatles at the Beeb" recordings. What do you think?
All the best

I've also seen September 2005 mentioned in several places recently.

Someone asked about Magical Mystery Tour on DVD. I just found it's available on NetFlix. Let It Be is not in their database of future movies yet though.

reply

Here it is Sept and still no offical word on the DVD release. I'm hoping that it will still be released this year.

Update (8/1/08)

In case you missed it, Abbeyrd's Beatles Page got an exclusive comment Thursday morning from an Apple spokesman countering the stories that say Paul and Ringo have stopped the release of "Let It Be" on DVD. "We do have plans to release it some time in the future," is what the spokesperson told us.

An anonymous industry source told the Daily Express in 2008 that according to Apple insiders, McCartney and Starr blocked the release of the film on DVD. The two were concerned about the effect on the band's "global brand ... if the public sees the darker side of the story. Neither Paul nor Ringo would feel comfortable publicizing a film showing The Beatles getting on each other's nerves ... There's all sorts of extra footage showing more squabbles but it's unlikely it will ever see the light of day in Paul and Ringo's lifetime."

Sadly, this is true. You can only get it as a bootleg. I've seen one with tons of bonus material on it.
