Anchor Bay or MGM?

I've immediately fallen in love with this Film when I watched it at a German 70mm-Festival on the big screen. I'm no thinking of picking it up on DVD.

If someone can tell, what are the differences (e. g. image quality) between the Anchor Bay and the MGM releases? The Anchor Bay DVD is supposed to have a 1:2,20 aspect ratio which would be the OAR (since the film was shot on 65mm), opposite to the MGM DVD with a slightly cropped 1:2,35.

I wouldn't care about the bit of cropping from 1:2,20 to 1:2,35 if the image quality of the MGM DVD is better or on par with the Anchor Bay release, if both are equal, I'd prefer the latter one.

I have the Anchor Bay version from a while back - it's an amazing print... haven't seen the other one.

Check out the write up on DVD Compare - http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=5603 which seems to suggest that despite what's on the case, the MGM might be in the OAR?

Okay, all that doesn't sound too intriguing but since there's no other release around, I'll have to buy it if I want to experience that amazing piece of cinema one more time:-/

Its a great move and here we are 8 years later and no high definition version. I own both disks and while the aspect ratio is a little different in both, both were used so no real issue. The really sad thing is BOTH DVDs are non anamorphic meaning that the level of detail is lousy. That said, its the best you can get until someone realizes this movie was MADE for High Def.
