Yeah. He stated in his autobiography that he grew up in the Brooklyn neighborhood where the movie was filmed on location during the late 60s. They were looking for extras to play small children in the movie, and Charlie's mother entered his name in a lottery, and Charlie was one of the kids who won.
It's kind of interesting when you consider that he made his debut in Hollywood many years before his brother Eddie and as a small child too.
