This movie vs. You, The Living and Songs from the Second Floor

Is this movie more plot-oriented than Roy Andersson's later movies? I found the newer movies hard to sit through, but my film professor showed a scene from this movie and it seems more....realistic? than any of the scenes from You, The Living or Songs from the Second Floor, which are very surreal movies.

Yes, Roy Andersson has said of this film, his debut, that it was influenced by the Sixties' "new wave" movement of realism and naturalism, and also by the soft-focus lyricism of fellow Swede Bo Widerberg's movies. After he had made "En Kärlekshistoria", he found that it was a kind of dead end: he'd said all he wanted in this naturalist way, and didn't want to repeat himself. From then on, he would expand on the way he depicted the older generations in this movie, with their mostly pathetic, tragic, tedious and darkly comic existence.
