Bizarre

I just finished watching this in Japanese (which I do not understand) with no subtitles. I found the film interesting, entertaining, grotesque and bizarre. For a 1970 movie there is a fair bit of nudity and suggestive scenes, as well as copious amounts of blood. Two rival clans are determined to hack each other to bits, and they do it admirably.
But this film is not just a Yakuza yarn - it is filled with horror, comedy, and a good deal of strangeness.
