Dubbed dialogue.

This certainly was an Italian-made production; it sounded like a typical spaghetti western, without the western. Except for the principal actors - Cassavetes, Falk, Rowlands - all the other mostly-Italian actors were obviously dubbed. Even well-known American character actor Val Avery's univerally recognizable Philadelphia accent was inexplicably dubbed-over by someone else. It made for very cheesy-sounding dialogue.
