re-make

Does anyone know if there was a re-make to this movie? If so, who wrote the screenplay or treatment for it?
If anyone has ideas about this, please be sure to post.

there has not yet been a remake, but a certain high level producer in the US (can't remember the name) already owns the option on the remake. So if you were thinking of doing it yourself, well... that producer beat you to it. : )

Personally, I believe this would only work as an "inspired by" and not an outright remake.

It doesn't really matter if the remake is good or bad. What's important is that a remake would mean that the original would finally get released on DVD!

The film has been released on DVD in Italy

Any remake of this films is doomed to fail because it is simply impossible to find an actor who can stand comparison with the mad-as-hell, high-voltage performance by Gian Maria Volontè in this movie ! The craziest show of force by any actor on any screen since Charles Laughton's Captain Bligh in the first version of the Bounty !

« There's been a call for a murder.
- Ah. When was that?
- Well, about 10 to 20 minutes.
- Now was it 10 minutes or 20 minutes? (Angry:) It is because of this kind of imprecision that murderers can escape arrest ! (In calmer voice:) You'll see that I'm right when I'm no longer here. »

Paul Schrader wrote a screenplay for a remake entitled INVESTIGATION in the late eighties. Cannon Films were going to make the film, with Andrei Konchalovsky attached to direct and Al Pacino--making a then screen comeback, having taken a hiatus after REVOLUTION--set to star. The film never materialised and Konchalovsky ended up making TANGO AND CASH instead.

Remake THIS?! Sacrilege!

Nobody can be as good as Volonté. He was a half-god.

I agree, there's absolutely no reason to remake Petri's original - it's one of my favourite films.

That said, with Schrader involved with the screenplay, it would have been worth seeing at the very least.

Paul Schrader was one of the best, smartest and most corageous screenwriters in American cinema's history. I'd trust him to make an interesting remake of this movie, even if surpassing the original is impossible.

This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel.
