Airport scene with crossword puzzle?

Could have sworn this was the film in which the lead actor works on the NY Times puzzle in the terminal, then buys a fresh copy, sits next to a beautiful woman on the plane, and fills in the answers very quickly, attracting her attention. Does anyone know what film that scene was in? It would have been made around the same time, and possibly was also on a father-son theme, but the character of the son would have been conniving, unlike Hackman in "I Never Sang...."
