Morley Cigarettes

Interesting tidbit. The seedy character the detective dislikes steals a pack of cigarettes from the police station. It is a pack of Morley cigarettes. Is this where the faux brand name originated? The most famous use of this brand name is probably from the X-Files.

Maybe the name Morley is a sly reference to Congressman Morley; the name of William Windom's character in the TV series "The Farmers Daughter", co-starring the beautiful Inger Stevens, who checked out way too early.
