I've watched through Collection 8 of the Dark Shadows soap opera. (At this point Victoria has passed the dream to Barnabas and Adam is running amok.)
I want to watch the House of Dark Shadows movie, but I don't want to encounter any spoilers for the rest of the soap opera. Will I be ok watching it now, or should I wait until I'm done with the series?
House of Dark Shadows is basically a reworking of the original Barnabas story, with more blood and better sets. If you're into the Dream Curse and the creation of Adam, then you are well past what is covered in HODS. Also, watching the second theatrical film, Night of Dark Shadows, will spoil nothing at all, as it is a very different storyline from the series. Note though, that NODS was severely edited prior to its original release, rendering much of the latter half of the film very disjointed. Nonetheless, I would highly recommend viewing both films.

shareDid you ever watch the film? I think it is just as good as the TV series and one of my favorite horror movies of all time. You're actually better off for having watched part of the TV show before the movie because some people who watched the movie first were confused about the character relationships. They had trouble distinguishing who's who (like for instance I read someone couldn't figure out if Roger was Elizabeth's husband or brother).
