What to do about a haunted house

THE HOUSE THAT WOULD NOT DIE (1970) arrived in the first wave of the, 'Golden Age of Television Fright Movies', from 1970 through 1974, although individual fright tv movies appeared in 1969 and a few other after 1974 even to 1983. But during those five years, mainstream free television carried a movie of the week on two of the three major networks.

Forty-two years have passed since THE HOUSE THAT WOULD NOT DIE and people still find it an enjoyable, modern, haunted house story. What's so unique is that these ghost and spook television movies found a ready audience at a time when there was little public interest in the paranormal, compared to today.

Reality television ghost research shows, renewed interest in demonology (from either a secular or religious position), and the Internet have shed a lot of information on ghostly and spirit hauntings and what to do about them.

Here's what I discovered in my research from the Internet and the books it led me to, as well as cable television and YouTube interview videos of the subject matter experts.

If you move into a house like that described in the movie, THE HOUSE THAT WOULD NOT DIE, you have a spirit problem that arises from one of two origins:

1) Human ghost haunting.
a) Active, intelligent haunting. The ghost of the deceased or deceased persons for some reason have not passed over and remain earth-bound. This is a real problem because those ghosts were there before you and you and your family are the intruders. Now the ghost or ghosts may be willing to co-exist with you, but if not, it would be best for you to consult your own religious authorities for advice. Do not attempt a do-it-yourself ghost exorcism. You don't know what to do and you'll only make it worse.
b) Residual, non-intelligent haunting. The deceased have left behind powerful 'energies' or, 'traces' of their passing, usually originating from powerful past living emotions and trauma. This is like watching a video set to, 'loop', or 'repeat'. It may look scary but it's harmless since it can't do anything to you or anyone else. All you can do is ignore it. The residual haunting always occurs in the same location, does the very same thing, and tends to manifest around the same time.

2) Demonic infestation.
a) Secular explanation. The earth contains indigenous, non-corporeal, non-material, intelligent, sentient energy forms that humans call, spirits. Belief in spirits is universal to human existence and civilization dating back to the earliest-known oral and written traditions in every human culture worldwide. Many of these spirits are benevolent, some neutral, and unfortunately, many are negative, mischievous, and even malevolent towards humans.
What you encountered in your home is a bad spirit who either was there before you moved in and now regards you as an unwanted intruder to be scared off, or, the malignant spirit moved in after you and your family did due to something you or someone else did purposely or inadvertently to invite it in. Your problems are only beginning because such spirits possess intelligence, will, and intent (negative) and intend to do you and your family some kind of emotional, mental, and psychological harm that leads to physical debilitation and even death.
b) Religious explanation. This is virtually the same except the origins are attributed to angels who rebeled against God, were cast out of Heaven to earth, and now seek vengeance and wreak it upon humanity when they can. Other non-Christian/Jewish/Moslem religions attribute same such diabolical spirits to those who deliberately chose evil, or were created in a dualistic universe consisting of roughly equal parts light and darkness, good and evil.
Secular and religious experts mostly concur on this point. Do not panic and stand your ground in your home. But absolutely do not attempt a do-it-yourself exorcism against a being that possesses vastly greater preternatural abilities and intelligence. You will jeopardize yourself and everyone else in the room. Consult a religious authority versed and trained in such matters for advice. Otherwise, it would be best to move out if the problem is causing trauma to you and your family. If you encounter a demonic presence at random on the outside, do not engage it but leave the area immediately and do not return, whatsoever. If a demonic entity moves into your abode, you do have a chance to make it leave. Now I wrote above do not attempt a do-it-yourself exorcism and that is true for the most part but I read that if something moves into your home, it is not yet in command of your home and your family. It is testing your willpower and courage. At this point in time when the new demonic presence is tentative, you can stand up to it and command it to leave immediately. There some actions and rituals prescribed on the Internet and even the Roman Catholic Church claims you can order a new demonic presence to leave, in the name of Christ, and using a blessed crucifix and holy water. Now, however, if the demonic presence was already there before you, it's harder. You're the intruder and the demonic presence will try to defend its territory. Consult a religious authority for assistance or you will probably in the end find yourself moving out.
Both secular and religious authorities concur that you and your family should not engage in activities and practices that would invite demonic presences into your place of residence. I won't go into detail since it's all on the Internet but you should be aware of it.
That said, you should not live a life of superstitious fear nor your family of demons. Remember, God created this world for humans, not for them. Demons and devils are squatters on our world and they don't belong here. You have a large degree of natural God-given protection against them unless you engage in ill-advised activities and practices to invite them into your home, your life, and in your head. But something diabolical forces its way into your life, you are not helpless or defenseless. Consult your own religious authorities for advice after ensuring there is NO medical or psychological cause that might be erroneously interpreted as demonic. So it would be a good idea to consult a doctor, physician, psychologist, or psychiatrist as well, even first. Many if not most religious authorities may insist on this first.
