I know your post is over 10 years old, but if you are still searching, it might help if you know that this was originally a one hour play in the UK "Armchair Theatre" strand and starred Donald Pleasence. The play was titled "Call me Daddy", and was adapted by the author, Ernest Gebler, from his novel, "Hoffman".
I have often wondered how this film would have fared had Pleasence (the best ever Ernst Stavro Blofeld) got the title role?
