LIFE MAGAZINE story 1970

The actual filming of this picture was compromised by the reported issues and "chips on the shoulders" of most of the black cast--particularly Calvin and Ta-Tanisha. They made life miserable for the white actors and the director, and, it was reported, that Calvin's unprofessionalism was way out of control. He consistently arrived late, or didn't come in at all, didn't learn his lines, left the cast and crew waiting for hours while he partied in his dressing room, and when reprimanded, he claimed it was due to his race. Similarly, Ta-Tanisha wouldn't so much as look at her white co-stars, and EVERYTHING became an issue about race...from the size of her dressing room, to using a phone on set (I mean, WHAT actor has the audacity to make a phone call ON a movie set while the camera is rolling...) Hmm, yet, at the end of the day, they all cashed their pretty hefty paychecks..
