i can't believe that they haven't made a dvd copy of this lovely film...i saw it when i was in college--it was dubbed in english and the song was haunting...the title of the song if i remember right is "loss of love"...i hope too, that they will eventually release this film again for viewing.

i was about 4 or 5 years old, in the late seventies when this movie was shown on television here in philippines... young as i was... i was moved and touched by the story, places and passion of the movie, though the title, nor the movie itself or its stars did not register on my mind..all i knew was.. there was this movie about a woman searching for her husband or something. That thought carried me through adulthood and with the advent of the internet.. i began searching for that movie and its stars and found out that its title is sunflower,, it starred sophia loren and marcello mastroianni... didn't know what struck me when i watched that movie.. maybe it was a serendepitious twist of fate.. but the movie still bugs me until now.... too bad the video is not available here in manila....

i was a young biy then when i watched this on tv...very moving indeed with a haunting theme song..... i can still remember sophia as she moved around and looking at all those dead soldiers' faces as she desperately tried to look for marcelo...i think it was the basis for the filipino melodrama released in the mid nineties starred by richard gomez and dawn zulueta...i hope to have the chance to watch sunflower again ...peace to you

Wow how strange!

I watched this movie in TV also when I was around 6yrs old in Philippines. It was 1977 when it was shown I believe. I cried like a baby, real loud when the train left and the movie ended with the field of sunflowers. From time to time, years later when I was in elementary school, then through highschool and now (I'm in my 30s), my mother would still mention about how I cried during the ending of "SunFlower" as a little boy.

I saw the ending scene again just recently and it brought back feelings I had when I was a kid, this time though I only had tears in my eyes. I guess I can control my emotions better now. Nevertheless, the movie is still effective. And yes, I remember those really sad scenes where there were dead soldiers lying on the snow. I also remember when her husband accidentally swallowed her earings in the beginning. This is memories remembered 30yrs ago as a 6yr old boy about a movie.
