...his white girlfriend didn't get in the way. As he draws his gun, the girl with the crocheted sweater collides with him and knocks him off balance. Then Hunter almost falls to the ground. At this moment the Angels gain the advantage, and they start to pounce and continually stab him.

Yeah and he might not have been killed if he hadn't carried a gun to a crowded rock concert looking for trouble.
