Song at the end

Does anyone the song at the end of the film and the name of the singer? It is very haunting.

reply

I don't recall the performer (his name appears in the credits at the end), but the song is El Male Rachamim (Oh God, Full of Mercy). It's actually from an old liturgical poem dedicated to victims of medieval persecution. It is sometimes performed with updated text that refers to victims of the Holocaust.

Indeed, shuzare is right : it is "El Mole Rachamim" sung by Sholom Katz. In the film, we can hear in this song words like Trblink, Maidanech, which were concentration camps. So, shuzare is definitely right.

When I heard El Male Rachamim I started crying.....very powerful especially when I heard the names of the death camps.

Nos perituri mortem salutamus nobis semper sit amor.

You can hear Katz's rendition on youtube; it's the best of them. BTW, Treblinka and Maidanek were not concentration camps. They were devoted exclusively to the mass murder of Jews.

Actually, the "El Male Rachamim" prayer can be recited as a memorial for any person who died at a memorial occasion such as the anniversary of the death or as part of the liturgy on those days when the memorial service (Yizkor) is said. When an individual says the prayer, he or she includes the name of the deceased being remembered. The version of the prayer heard in the film is the one written after the Second World War to commemorate victims of the Holocaust generally and refers to the six million Jews who were murdered inter alia in the death camps.
