series ends with a bang!

. . . this was the last of the six gamera pictures and it's the best of the bunch. the series was concluded on an action-packed high note. the film is short, about an hour and fifteen minutes, however a short running time is preferable to padding out with repeated scenes from previous gamera pictures. for instance, in destroy all planets the director filled about fifteen minutes (!) with scenes from previous gamera films and also lifted gamera's destruction of a dam from a previous film and used it as "new" footage. sacrilege. while gamera vs. monster x is somewhat grotesque and sometimes overly melodramtic, you get the feeling that all the previous gamera shows were just practice leading up to this one that actually feels like a real japanese giant monster movie . . .

There are actually two more Gamera films for this series after "Jiger", "Gamera vs. Zigra" (1971) and "Gamera, Super Monster" (1980) bringing the total to eight. And the running time of the movie is 82 minutes.
