I think CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN is still the best. It has a great story, action, drama, excellent character development and the brilliance of Peter Cushing. What more can you ask for?

I think Christopher Lee was the best MONSTER, but many of the films had creatures that was sad and had very much feelings. (Revenge, Woman and Destroyed)

But I haven’t seen: Evil of Frankenstein and Frankenstein and the monster from hell yet ( I don’t know if I WANT to see Horror of Frankenstein), so I haven’t seen all the creatures, haven’t I.

peterkarlsson79,

I agree Lee was the most monsterous monster in "Curse of Frankenstein"; I believe though that "Revenge of Frankenstein" and "Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed" are better movies overall.

As for "Evil of Frankenstein" and "Frankenstein and the Monster from Hell", see them for Peter Cushing; he is great in both films. The monster in "Evil..." is a rather cartoonish creation inspired by the old Universal Frankenstein films (the same can be said for the storyline). David Prowse's hirsute, bulky "Monster from Hell" is better, but really neither compare with the better films mentioned above.

Btw, "Horror of Frankenstein" is not very good but perhaps you should watch it just so you can say you've seen it.

Its got to be the amazing Freddie Jones in Frankenstein must be destroyed. The only truly successful 'monster' created by the good baron, in that Richter retains his ability to speak and think and moralise, unhampered by the brain damage most of Frankensteins other creations suffer from (indeed, after the transplant Richter is more sane than he was before), and yet, despite this success, like every other 'monster' Richter tries to kill Frankenstein - except this time he has a reason, and for once it would seem he succeeds.

Add to that Freddie Jones' amazing performance as Richter (look at his face as he holds Frankenstein at gunpoint, hear his accusing tones!) and you surely have the best frankenstein monster, if not the best hammer monster!!

Indeed and I like to think he does. The last film 'Frankenstein and The Monster From Hell' is quite clearly set before many of the films in the series due to the look of the era (which corresponds more to the first two films), whereas 'Frankenstein and The Monster From Hell' is getting towards the Edwardian era, and thus I would set it chronologically last in the series. Like so:

'Curse of Frankenstein'
'Revenge of Frankenstein'
'Frankenstein and The Monster From Hell'
'Frankenstein Created Woman'
'Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed'

'Evil...' might be apocrypha, but it could also be added to the list with retconning: sometime after the first films, Frankenstein somehow salvages his first monster and brings him back to life (flashback in the films) and things go haywire again. He then returned for the main film; he is more heroic maybe due to a change of heart... or even a change of bodies a la 'Revenge of Frankenstein' and his ruthless streak has not fully taken over his being.

If you are sick of the ''I love Jesus 100% signature'', copy and paste this into your profile!

I gotta go with Freddie Jones in "Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed;" he made for a very touching and pitiable creature.
