NOT MISS LAKE'S VOICE

I DON'T THINK THE VOICE THAT IS DUBBED IN
IS ACTUALLY VERONICA'S. IT CERTAINLY DOESN'T
SOUND LIKE ANY OF HER OTHER FILMED APPEARANCES.
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS?

reply

The voice is most likely hers. Keep in mind that she was in pretty bad shape at the time: decades of alcohol abuse, in addition to hepatitis, would have taken a huge toll on her health.

reply

Yeah, like they would really have had the money to re dub her. She said herself, they ran out of cash before editing began.

Yes I'm pretty sure it is her voice. An audio interview of her around this time span exists and she sounds about the same.
Alcohol ages the voice too as hers is gravelish or of stone and that of a 60 year old. What abhorred me was her rotten teeth. Mine look better than hers and I've been chewing snuff for 42 years.
If this was actually filmed in 1967 that would have made her 45 at the time (some give her birth year as 1919 tho) If she is not heavily made up, then she don't look all that bad, maybe 10 years older but if make up is hiding real looks, I don't think I'd want to see her without it.
All & all a terribly sad ending for Veronica Lake. The month she died I was vacationing with relatives in Hollywood. Makes me wonder how close I was during her sad last days.

reply

oops...she died in Vermont, not Hollywood, didn't remember that.
