This movie sucked

Straight up boring, terrible pacing. I wanted to shut this off at the one hour mark

And before someone says, “well you didn’t get it.” I did get the message. The movie aims to convey the experience of an individual who can’t find his place in the world. He was born in an upper class family, playing piano as a youth. Then he runs off and tries to pose as a blue-collar oil-mill worker. Neither worlds seem to appeal to him. He hates the snobbishness of the upper class family. But he also finds his girlfriend to be dumb. The result is that he feels stuck and alone. For this reason, apparently, he is a major jerk.

So I get the message of the film. But the movie also needs to provide some entertainment, needs to be able to hold our interest. And although Nicholson’s character was supposed to be a jerk, he appears too loathsome to serve as our protagonist.
