Poor Karen Black

Poor thing. Rayette just wanted to love Bobby and be loved by Bobby. Instead she gets pregnant, refuses to let Bobby abandon her, travels across the country with him, gets humiliated by his uppity family and the disdain for her humble upbringings, and finally gets abandoned by Bobby in the parking lot of a rural gas and convenience store. How sad :(

What a great performance by Karen Black. Very honest and not overacted or distastefully portrayed.

Great actress and she was wonderful in this role.

As for Rayette, I was actually expecting him to push her out the car. Man, she was irritating. My hope was that he at least left the car keys.

I never understood why he was even with her if he found her so annoying.

She was terrific in this film and she had a lovely singing voice.

I'm not a big fan of Jack Nicholson, and know that many will take issue with me when I say that this may have been his best performance. That being said, I feel that Karen Black absolutely stole the show, especially considering that every other performance the film was above average.

He would have made her even more miserable if he'd stayed with her.

Didn't she die awhile back?

reply

Yes, of ampullary cancer, back in 2013.
