Jack Nicholson's outburst in the car

What makes the scene powerful and profound, is the sequence of events that lead to that outburst. Nicholson puts on a clinic as the tortured soul who on one hand, makes us feel for him, but on the other, makes us shake our head at his toxic spiral into loneliness and despair. The ending to this film was a perfect bow.. a tattered one.

You’re talking about when he’s about to leave for Washington? Right before he goes back inside and asks his girlfriend if she wants to come?

I thought that scene was too over the top, like something Jim Carrey would do in one of his films
