Comparison of old DVD release to new Double Feature release??

Yes I eagerly awaited this & pre-ordered it when I read of the double feature along with "The Outer Space Connection". I still love both movies on the DVD-I was 10 and 15 years old when these originally came out and were pretty popular (though in those pre-cable/internet/videotape days there wasn't much competition)...I am very nostalgic for documentaries like this. Though I am very disappointed with the video quality-both movies were sourced from videotape very obviously and the soundtrack is awful-the volume is low with an incredibly loud hum throughout...I'm still glad to have "Outer Space Connection" & "Chariots" on DVD all the same..does anyone know if the earlier version of "Chariots" is of a higher quality then the new double feature release??? I'm talking about the still in print stand-alone version of "Chariots" since i'm aware it was released multiple times -sometimes as a budget double feature with other movie. On Amazon and Deep Discount.com there is still another version available. I'd probably consider purchasing it if it's of a better quality than the current double feature..

I've since done the comparison.

The original single-release of Chariots of the Gods is far superior in both sound and picture quality to the double-release with The Outer Space Connection. The double release version is also eight minutes shorter, as it's the Landsburg version edited for television. Neither version allows the ending Peter Thomas score to finish before the film ends, and the Landsburg lasts a couple of seconds longer, but this hardly matters.

The original is far preferable.
