Question About MGM Release

Is 'The Decameron' Dvd, the recently released one,
edited? does anyone know?

reply

No. I don't believe it's cut. I have a vhs of the old Water Bearer Films release from 1991, plus I have the MGM DVD from 2002. I haven't made a scene by scene comparison, but I am pretty sure it is the same. The film, originally X rated, was re-rated R in 1991.

It's the same, though I'm a bit shocked it got an "R" when officially submitted to the MPAA in the early 90s. (The earliler X rating was self-applied, something a distribution company could do before the NC-17 rating became the official "Adults Only" rating in the US.) There's a shot of an erect penis as a man is about to mount a nun, for God's sake. It's very brief. I guess everyone on the board blinked at the exact same time.

P.S. The MGM DVD is a GREAT transfer. Wish the other Pasolini films had such good transfers. Only Criterion's MAMMA ROMA is as good.

I am sorry to disagree with you. The new version of DVD doesn't have a scene of a naked, erected deaf man prepare to mount a nun like in the VHS version i saw. I am very sure about this. Of course there is a censorship here.

You must have blinked, too--right along with the MPAA. It's there, plain as day, on the MGM DVD.
