Great Score

I love this movie, in no small measure due to the great score by Malcolm Arnold. Heard he passed away last year. The score makes the movie. The funeral section sounds a bit like a part of Holst - The Planets, also a fair bit of Ravel - say Pavanne. Do I notice some of the music from Taxi Driver inspired by this score? Similar. I saw the film at least 20 years ago on TV and loved it. Great actors and scenes. The flashbacks make much more sense to me now. The focus is on the theme and mood. It's daring and works. Great movie. Too bad the print I've got on DVD isn't that great, but at least the soundtrack is in good shape. Beautifully done. Didn't know that Arnold was such a rogue. His good side certainly comes out in this movie.
