Airing in the US on Fox movie channel

I watched the last 45 minutes of this film yesterday. Although the script was poorly structured (flashbacks all over the place), it was enjoyable to view the interpretations of the characters by some long favorite actors: Laurence Olivier, Anna Massey, Corin Redgrave, Michael Redgrave, Sinead Cusack, Wendy Hiller.

I hope the film will air again soon. I'm anxious to see the beginning, as I only caught a snippet of Massey's performance as Miss Murdstone in a flashback. Ditto with Laurence Olivier as Mr. Creakle.

It's not a great film, but there are some very fine performances. It bears viewing at least once, in order to see these fine actors portraying characters from a favorite novel.

The movie is included on a budget DVD series called Vintage Movie Classics in WallMart, three movies on one - David Copperfield, Captain Kidd, Of Human Bondage . This version of Copperfield is great, also there are some problems. The main thing is probably the short length. How to compress the span of this book into this short time frame. Fantastic acting and many many extremely iconic and memorable scenes. I've been waiting for this movie for maybe 20 years. I love this movie. Great music by Arnold.

My accountant says, "1 + 1, 40% of the time, equals divorce".

My dad bought this for $1 at WalMart a few years ago, and I loved it when I watched it. Now that I've read the book I see it's faults, but it has some great performances, like you said. I'm very fond of it.

It's been a while, so have you seen the beginning of the film yet?

This is the DVD that I have:

I thought I'd tell you some sellers are selling it for $0.01, if you are interested. You'd have to pay a few dollars for shipping, though.

Hey, thanks! I'll check it out.

I have just bought this and Jane Eyre, starring George C Scott and Susannah York on the same disc for $2 at Dick Smiths. That's in Australia, for those who live there. The quaility is very good. I will have to have a look at what else they have next time I'm out.

I'm afraid I'm a bit uncultured, this being the first & only time I've seen any movie adaption of David Copperfield. I really liked this movie, but I see this version is somewhat of a different take on this story. Is there a definitive film I might enjoy?

Trust me,

Hi kfipaul,

Have also just watched David Copperfield, and thought it was good enough for a made-for-tv movie.

I agree with others who say that it was quite an effort to cram such a long novel into just under two hours.

Susan Hampshire was delightful, as ever.

Hey, I really like your sign-off quote.

It is from one of my favourite flix, "The Phantom of the Paradise" which starred (among others) the very talented Paul Williams as Swann....
