Well, I've seen some rather shocking (for the time, mind you) 70's exploitation films that were much more rough than this....but I can say that the explicit use of breast shots in this movie does deserve the R rating. So, expect that a lot more than violence, which is mainly portrayed in a Shakespearian atmosphere.

Yeah, the topless shots and rape scenes were even to earn this film an R, which probably put off a lot of Vincent Price's old-school audience. The gore is almost comical, though.

Yea, I get the feeling that by that point, and a great deal into the 70s, Price was just doing these films to get them over with...I don't think he enjoyed them much, save maybe Dr. Phibes and Theatre of Blood.

Indeed, a lot of these feel like contractual obligation films with rehashes of his previous characters. But "Dr. Phibes" and "Theatre of Blood" were a lot of fun, with some genuine weirdness and humor. I wish Price had worked with more A-list directors on bigger-budget films (with all due respect to Roger Corman).
