I've seen other movies that had topless scenes that had received only a PG (or GP as it was called back then) from that era. I was surprised that this had an R as well while "Come Back, Charleston Blue" had a PG. "Come Back, Charleston Blue" was much more violent, but didn't have any nudity. Also, at the end of Cotton Comes to Harlem", when the detectives receive Uncle Bud's letter showing what he did with the money in the cotton bale, there is a photo of him in Africa with some topless women (I didn't notice the women were topless until many years later). That might be part of the reason as well.

No, actually Ms. Pace was practically 100% nude in this film. When I saw her taking a shower in "Cotton Comes To Harlem," way back in 1970, I was stuck by, what the Italians call, the "Thunderbolt"!

There is also some language include the now politically incorrect N-word.

the judy pace and the white cop scene. remember he gets locked out nude in the hall with the bag on his head?

Judy Pace. Topless.

She was more than topless. You also get a nice view of her backside and when she stands in the shower with the sliding door partially open you can see her pubic hair through the frosted glass. I wish I could go back in time and trade places with that lucky actor who was the cop.

Long live the 70s!

reply

Yeah, I was gonna say it was because of the nudity.

reply

Odd. In the 1979 version of "Invasion of the Bodysnatchers", Brooke Adams also walks around totally nude showing pubic hair. Yet that movie was only rated PG.

Annoying the world since 1960!
