Marcello and The Authoritarian Personality

So after watching the movie i thought Marcellos charachter was a perfect example of the authoriarian personality whom Adorno and other sociologists wrote about in the book "The Authoritarian Personality" (1950). The core concepts in the book is about, how psychological traumas like the one Marchello experinced, lack of a personal relationships to your parrents (Marcellos didnt have a close relationship with his mother, and his father beat him when he was a child) made him want to create and environment where he could create order and security in his life.

So my question is did the director read "The Authoritarian Personality" and personified the ideas of the book on Marcello?

It has been said that the urge that compels Clerici (Jean-Louis Trintignant) to align himself with fascism arises from that encounter with the gay chauffeur, which sows the seeds of sexual confusion on a young Clerici.
