Mystery finally solved!!!

I remembered seeing this movie as part of a double-bill with Pufinstuf when I was a kid. I couldn't remember the title or who starred in it at all; all I remembered was it was a family-friendly western with a saloon gal as part of the plot. My father took my brother and I to see this at the Ramova in Chicago, which was my only clue to go on. I also couldn't quite remember the approximate date, but thanks to the Chicago Tribune online archives I did quite a lengthy search of the movie listings, starting at January of 1971 and going about a year and a half in the wrong direction until I started working backwards to the end of July, 1970 and finally found this elusive movie after being driven crazy for years trying to remember it. Sorry to see this has never had an official home video release, although I found it uploaded to YouTube and will be enjoying it shortly.

I love that you did all of that work to find this movie. How long did it take you?

When this movie was first going to be shown on TV I was very little and super exited to see it. I got distracted the night it came on and forgot about it. I remembered at bedtime and I cried myself to sleep saying "I missed The Cockeyed Cowboys of Calico County" over and over so I never forgot the title.

I remembered this the other day and I found the movie in its entirety on Youtube.

Here's what I think happened: my mother, having seen the trailer in the commercial, saw that there was a "saloon girl" (old west for prostitute) co-star. I think she intentionally distracted me because she didn't want me to see it, nor be the bad guy by saying I couldn't and having to explain why not. This would have been classic mom in passive aggressive mode.

So I've now seen it twice and it took me less than fifty years. Guess I showed her.
