Awful

What an awful movie. Everything was confusing, and the attempt at humor and suspense was laughable. Bad Bad movie, IMO.

I thought this film was a lot of campy fun. Bava injects a sense of pitch-black humor into the standard-issue plot that keeps things light and amusing throughout.

Well, this movie was kind of a dress rehearsal for "Bay of Blood", which has A LOT more blood and was a HUGE influence on "Friday the 13th" and the subsequent American slasher films. It's also heavily based on the Agatha Christie novel "Ten Little Indians". Obviously, there is not a great intersection of Agatha Christie fans and slasher movie fans (both would probably be loathe to admit the indirect influence the latter has had on the former via Mario Bava). But personally I love these "mass murder mystery" type films whether they're bloodless Agatha Christie types, stylistic giallo like this, or the blood-drenched early 80's slasher movies.

This is about the only movie I've seen with Edwige Fenech where she does NOT get naked. (The sexy dance she does will still cause a lot bulges in a lot of pants though). I was especially impressed though with Ely Galeani who plays the doctor's young assistant. She didn't keep her clothes on very often in her later roles either(i.e. several "Black Emanuelle" films), but she was never as good as she was here. She was definitely an appealing little cutie.

But if nothing else this movie is pretty short and doesn't wear out its welcome. And it sets the stage nicely for Bava' much more seminal "Bay of Blood"

Hardly any nudity.. only a quick flash through a blue nightie.. no gore.. even though it's an Italian giallo.. and the German Edgar Wallace films reveled in it..so there was a precedent.. and a confusing "wrap-up'... when they have to go through so much to explain it.. it's usually a sign of production tampering.. and that was the case here as the producers constantly tampered with Bava..

a modern "PG" rating should suffice.. could be shown on broadcast tv at night.. not much to it.

SPOILER****

They hid the formula in Edwich Fenech;s boobs? Thats the first place I'd look!

Sorry, but so far Bava's worst has to be his "comedy western Roy Colt & Winchester Jack...now THAT'S awful...the attempts at humor in that film fail on epic levels! Almost didn't finish it.
