Chisum

I would just like to say that while there are no new ingrediants in this film, I feel that it is very underated. The action sequences are well staged and the dry humour between Wayne and Johnson I find very amusing.
I would like to have seen it running a while longer with, perhaps, another top star in it. First Class.

A very solid action picture marking a return to form following poor motion pictures such as the undefeated and Hellfighters.

The director learned Ford's style at his father's knee. We see the regulars: Ben Johnson, Bruce Cabot and a variety of BatJack hangers-on. Of passing note here is recombined the Ricard Jaekel, Forrest Tucker and Wayne of "Sands of Iwo Jima". Wayne in his mature style is the alpha male with requisite buildup and treatment.

As Wayne was wont to do we've several current 'heart throbs' to offset his aging chracter and broaden the films appeal.

On the other hand this is without doubt the worst telling of the Billy the Kid story you're likely to see. Well, the superlative may not be appropriate as I've never been able to sit through Newman's "Lefthanded Gun".

I'm not saying we won't get our hair mussed!

I think that's because this "wasn't" the telling of the Billy the Kid story. Those elements were used to help tell the John Chisum story, and I think they added to the movie.

Young Guns II was a FAR worse retelling of the Billy the Kid Story. YGII made Chisum look like Lonesome Dove.
