Another great movie not yet on DVD

I just can't help but wonder what keeps such good movies out of the public's hands for so long with so much other junk being pumped out like water.

You need to look up Jimmy Stewart and it is either with a Western he did or in the Jimmy Sewart Collection with several other movies.

Both Cheyenne Social Club and Firecreek are two very underrated Stewart westerns. I've heard complaints from critics about Cheyenne Social Club trying to deal with "X rated" subject material in a "G rated" way. I believe the director underplayed the serious subject as best he could for the time the movie was made. It still succeeds in being an enjoyable and well done movie. Firecreek is also good. Stewart's hero character isn't uninteresting, he's just a subtle person. And Henry Fonda plays the perfect outlaw. Also a well directed film.

I agree with you, whole-heartedly, DH! My younger brothers and I got a kick out of this film, when it debuted on TV (circa 1971). So big a kick, in fact, that we watched every re-run of it, too!

I especially loved their semi-drunk duet on the theme song: "Rollin' On (Just Like A Rollin' Stone)."

The topless women in the raid is gratuitous. Everyone knows what happens in a social club like that. If anyone needs a graphic aid then they needed to show more than just topless women; know what I mean? I am not complaining except explaining the truth.

When this movie was made, I do believe women could occasionally be seen topless on broadcast television, especially on public television (before it was PBS). It was a pivotal time in history.

I was in high school about the time this movie was made. I once saw a girl at school that dropped something on the ground (probably as an excuse to lean over) and when she leaned over to pick it up, I could clearly see she had no bra on. It was the time of People's Park in Berkley, California where nudity was normal.
