A Change of Pace?
It has been well documented over the years that Elvis chose this, his last film, for a change of pace from his usual movie fare. I was curious as to how many people thought it worked.

shareI liled it as it focused more on his acting then on the singing stuff... I just wish that he could have done more films like this....
I love You Peter Tomarken! I will miss you always... You will never be forgotten....
It definitely marked a change of pace for Elvis. Not one of his best films, but still worthwhile. It's very gritty, and I'm surprised it was rated G.
shareI liked it...
shareit is certainly better and more substantial than the average ~elvis movie' but it still has a TV movie quality about it.
shareElvis didn't actually "choose" this film, it was arbitrarily assigned to him as part of the deal with NBC that resulted in the 1968 comeback special. From all accounts, this film offended Elvis and he was not at all pleased with doing it.
For the person who said it feels like a TV movie - it was shot as such, but was released to theaters in most places. In the UK it wasn't though, and was indeed a tv movie there, debuting in 1970.
As far as Elvis films go, "Change Of Habit" was not as outrageous as the synopsis implies, but it is pretty strange. It's interesting as it shoehorned into the story so many different aspects of late '60's culture and social problems.
No other Presley feature would attempt to do these things.
I'd certainly rank it as among his better movies, but that's not really saying a whole lot.
