Le Cercle Rouge Or Rififi

who reckons which film is better...le cercle rouge (1970) or rififi (1955)... theyve both got the same sort of storyline and the silent heist scenes in both movies are extraordinary. I personally think they're both equal. I think maybe le cercle rouge was better, but i honestly dont know. theyre both great french movies

Red Circle, definitely Red Circle

Riffifi. Cercle left me cold, I didn't connect with any of the characters and Delon was a little TOO Delon, barely above room temperature.

In fact, I'm going to say that I think I preferred Samourai to Cercle, it fit Delon better.

Uh, Melville had nothing to do with Rififi. Check the credits.

You are retarded. Rififi stole EVERYTHING from John Huston's Asphalt Jungle. If I were you, I would go OD on Crystal Meth.

reply

That's a tough one, but I think I would give a slight edge to Rififi on the basis of its stronger ending. The last sequence of Rififi, driving in the car, haunts me still. The ending of Le Cercle Rouge was a little disappointing after such a long build up. But they're both excellent.

I really didn't get much out of Le Cercle Rouge at all. It went on and on, there were some pretty shots, but it just fell flat for me.

Are there other actresses in Hollywood that are secretly bald?

Le Cercle ROuge is better. I'm not gay or anything but Alain Delon is an attractive man. He is prettier than most women. That old dude from Rififi just doesnt do it for me. So I have to say Le Cercle Rouge is superior.

I love Alain Delon!!! That's the only reason I rented Le Cercle Rouge. I wasn't disappointed. It was a brilliant film, and everybody, especially Alain, was fantastic. See him in Plein Soleil, the ***original***, finest Tom Ripley story.

Riffifi gets my vote for coming first.

Rififi slightly better than Cercle Rouge, mainly because of the ending and because it came first!(R.I.P my fellow "greek" Jyl Dassin)Cercle rouge way better than The Samurai!

I gave rififi a 10 and le cercle a 9.

Rififi:

First it was black and white. I know that Melville was doing his "color black and white" but I am quite slippery about B&W.

Second, rififi did not have the police presence that le cercle rouge had. It was gangsters 1st, police a distant second.

Lastly, I felt the pain that Tony and his crew went through more so than le cercle rouge

I think Rififi was better, but this is really kind of an homage to those kinds of films and is more a comment on them than it is a peer. I doubt Melville would claim his film was better than the ones that inspired it - and he borrowed quite obviously from Rififi in eliminating ambient sound during parts of the breakin - even when something virtually slams shut. I think he wanted to draw attention to the silence and hence remind people of Rififi.

Rififi just shades it for me but I rate both films as 10/10. Delon was ultra cool in Le Cercle Rouge.
I'm also a big fan of The Asphalt Jungle, The Killing and Heat for heist movies.

reply

I prefered Rififi by far.
Le cercle rouge is fine, but a little bit too slow, too long and the characters didn't touch me like the ones in Rififi.

reply

Rififi. The ending sequence in Rififi left my jaw on the floor, and though Le Cercle Rouge is an excellent film, the ending left me a bit cold as well. And as somebody said, Rififi came first and virtually perfected the heist genre--I doubt Le Circle Rouge would exist without Rififi.
