Tiresome

I usually avoid war movies but I watched this because Mike Nichols directed and Buck Henry wrote the screenplay.

I found it tiresome. The Nichols/Henry flavor that made The Graduate so savory was clearly evident in the pace and cadence of this movie, but lacking was the entertainment value. It was like drinking a diet soda - similar but just not as good.

The only bright spots were the scenes with Orson Welles.

And what's with the main characters in the Graduate and Catch 22 running for their lives at the end? Was Buck Henry going through something in his life?

Read the books

You need to rewatch "The Graduate" since "running for their lives" is not an apt description of the ending of the film. In "Catch", Yossarian was literally paddling for his life. If you had not apparently napped during the film, you would perhaps understand why.
