Was the second director a fool?...

The original ending was supernatural with the dead rising and pulling Christian into the abyss, but the second director hated it and had the negatives destroyed. The only remaining footage are stills that can be seen on the DVD release.

I can understand that he didn't like the original ending but why destroy the negatives?

Insecurities got the better of him?

Too bad. Actually, who is the second director? I know Michael Reeves was supposed to direct it but died beforehand. Armstrong is credited as director. Could it be Adrian Hoven who hated the dead-rising stuff and had it destroyed?

I would've loved to see the original ending. Although it doesn't sound realistic like the rest of the film was, it would still be very interesting to watch.

I've been waiting for you, Ben.

I love seeing outtakes and deleted scenes from movies...I just hate when they're put back into a film and the original version is suppressed (like what Lucas has done with THX-1138).

But I like the ending to MOTD as it is; perfect and great 70's ending with the hero being killed.

. . . there's always room for Jello!
