40th Anniversary Edition?

As 2008 is the 40th anniversary of the debut of TBITB at Theater Four in NYC - I propose:

A 40th Anniversary Collector's Edition to include:

- A digital restored version of the 35mm print.
- New commentaries by Mart Crowley, William Friedkin, Peter White, Laurence Luckinbill & Rueben Greene
- Archival interviews with cast members who appeared on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson (there were several!)
- The original stage production performance (1st time on CD)
- An original musical soundtrack to the film.
- Deleted scenes from the film
- Interviews with the NYC revival cast of 1993/1994 (?)
- Mart Crowley discusses "The Men From the Boys" and the history of Michael Connelly as seen through "A Breeze From the Gulf" & "For Reasons That Remain Unclear"
- Anything else they might have, such as stills of the original set etc.

This package would fetch a GREAT price and be a TRUE collector's item!!!

What is most disturbing is that there is a ton of absolute CRAp out on DVD, even crap gay films - and this milestone is not! Who the heck really owns this film anymore? Who can we write too and try and nudge along to get this out? It is just shocking to me that this is not available on DVD yet. I thought we had gotten past the "politically incorrect" crap it so unfairly had to endure for so many years. The younger gay guys will just have to deal with it. If they're smart enough, they'll be able to put it into its proper perspective.

How could one get a copy? And for that matter, I heard that the movie was no longer in print. I would love a copy of this film to rent at leisure or just purchase. Does anyone have information as to where I can get a hold of the movie on VHS (unless by chance it is on DvD some where)???

Thanks.

I bought a VHS copy years ago.
The characters as Mart Crowley puts it, were his friends back in the day.
I know some of it holds up today, especially the quips and pathos.
Except for the self loathing in the end from the main Protagonist: Michael!
However, do you not love Emory? How many of us have known someone like him?
The whole cast is superb! I was too young to see it in the theaters back in
1969/1970. I do remember the hype. Also, would love to see the Johnny
Carson show with the cast on it and the play as well.

That would be TERRIFIC!!!

Great idea.

I really like this film, I don't care if it's dated or negative image, it is still hilarious!

A couple of years ago I found William Friedkin's website, wrote to him asking for any possibilities of this landmark classic being released on DVD...unfortunately no reply.

Still hoping....
