Me.

Leonard Frey for Best Supporting Actor.

reply

How about Nelson AND Frey for Best Supporting Actor? No way the Academy was going to look at this film and give it awards back in 1970.

reply

Why do some people equate yelling and screaming with great acting? I'd definitely back Frey for best supporting, but Nelson was about as subtle and nuanced as a sledgehammer.

reply

Nelson wasn't screaming and yelling all through the movie--only towards the end. And his "slegehammer" acting actually fit the character pretty well. I know plenty of gay guys similar to Michael--they are NOT quiet and subtle.

reply

You miss the point. There’s a difference between an unsubtle performance and an unsubtle character. Nelson made very obvious choices as an actor that make Michael nothing more than a shrieking bitch, and utterly unsympathetic.

reply

I'm afraid you're missing the point too. You make it sound like Nelson was always screaming and carrying on. I disagree. He starts off quiet and slowly works up to a frenzy. It works. What would u rather? All the guys speaking quietly and being polite to each other? That would never have worked.

reply

"You make it sound like Nelson was always screaming..."

No, that's what you're reading into my post. I never said any such thing.

The original poster cited "CALL HIM!" as an example of Nelson's giving an Oscar-worthy performance. But his reading of that line, and many others in the same vein, is exactly why his performance is not good.

reply

He's roaring drunk by this time. A few hours earlier he was coming out with witty comeback, mostly very quotable, now he's screaming at Harold calling him a Jew and making really mean, dumb remarks about Emory. Most people when they are this drunk are pretty faced and even start fights and thowing things.

It's interesting how Alan is the other one who also gets so drunk he throws up.

Dwayne Johnson, The Rock. I personally knew the original. Bob was the next tenant to rent the APT over a fish restaurant on 3rd Ave.Barbra Streisand and Elliot Gould lived there before Bob. RIP

reply

Kenneth Nelson and Leonard Frey both deserved to win. Surprised they didn't get hardly any recognition at all for these outstanding performances.
