I remember setting the video for this film when it was shown on BBC.
The film was interrupted at various stages to report that the Princess of Wales had been in a car crash in Paris.
For some reason, I never saw the film even though I got all of it in various sections and I don't think its been on TV since.
This movie came out in theater in 1970. I think you got confused, this is not set in Paris but Marseilles, southern France.

Interesting, because I was watching Warren Beatty's "Reds" (obviously on a different British terrestrial channel...) and it was interrupted by news flashes about Lady Di. I still haven't seen the end of that flick...
