I think I know why they called it 'The Boatniks!'

I think it's because of the person who wrote the screenplay, Arthur Julian (God rest his soul!)! In 1960, he, with Paul Frees, wrote a movie called "The Beatniks!" I think that since he wrote that movie and this movie was about boats! He decided to use a little play on words! Therefore, creating the title "The Boatniks!" In some way, I think that's a cute and possibly clever joke! BOAT-niks, instead of BEAT-niks, get it!?

Yes, I was just thinking of how to search for it, and went with
'nik' since I figured it was related to beatniks. I wasn't aware of the relation to the earlier screenplay, just that it seemed appropriate for the era.

got it

I just learned about a book called "The Writings of Paul Frees". It's available on Amazon. (And I thought he was just a great voice artist!)

Speaking of writer Arthur Julian, based on his "F Troop" scripts, I think he must have been a very funny man.

Of course Boattniks comes from Beatniks. Why the heel would it otherwise be called that? Was there ever any doubt about that?!

Speaking of the origin of names, do you suppose that the Coast Guard boat, "The Point Maley" was named after Disney matte artist, Alan Maley.

reply

Good.

reply

I don't remember seeing any actual beatniks in The Beatniks.
