Incest?

There was one scene where Ma came into the room and said she didn't want to sleep alone that night. One son (I forgot his name) was unwilling so Herman got up and went. It really looked like she wanted to make love with him, and that it wasn't the first time something like that happened!
I'm very surprised nobody else has mentioned this. Even if it was platonic and she just wanted comfort, it's a little unusual for a mother to want to share a bed with her grown-up son.

She had "unnatural" relations with her sons, but then, according to the opening scenes of the movie, that's how she was raised. That's also why they were all so messed up.

You are only coming through in waves...your lips move, but I can't hear what you're saying...

Great Pink Floyd song!

I thought the man that got up to stay with her was the guy her son met in prison? Remember one of her son's walked on that guys back? I just finished watching the movie (and for the first time) and I could have sworn it was her son's friend (boyfriend?).

I've just seen a documentary on Gangstern in film on telly and Roger Corman himself talked about this movie and that she allegedly had incestous relationships with her sons. He talked to the script writer about this and how they could include this in the movie.

How old are you guys?

The mobster life was an ugly life, not an enviable, rebellious existence that was just to upset Sis. Holier-Than-Thou at church.

It's been mentioned numerous times. Maybe you just weren't around to hear it?

Back when the movie came out, everyone knew what the insinuation was.

It was quite obvious that she had sexual relations with all four of her sons--hence, when they moved near the beginning of the movie, her husband was deemed completely unnecessary.
