one of my favorite scenes

I saw this in the theatre when it first came out and I was young. One of my favorite all time sections in a movie is the total sequence where Pamela Dunlap (as Rembrandt) swims over to prick-tease one of ma's drug addict boys, who has been told by her to stay away from girls and don't let anybody know who you are. Well, he's a man and can't resist Rem's flirtatious ways, so he caves and tells her his name, hence breaking ma's two cardinal rules.

The next scene where Ma has the girl tied down to a bed, her clothes are ripped and the captive has this completely stunned look on her face--is just priceless. It leaves scads of room for decadent, evil thoughts as to what really happened between the lake and poor Rembrandt getting her sorry butt restrained. As viewers, we can fill in the gaps with a lot of horrible debauchery as we get to listen to Ma morally lecture her dim-witted boys while she trashes the girl and her character and at the same time, ponders poor Rembrandts fate--which is obviously going to be death, it's just a matter of how ma wants to do it. All all Rembrandt wanted to do was test her prowness skills as a woman.

Overall, it was just a great section of the film.

Yeah, I saw this on a double bill with Boxcar Bertha back in 1977 at a film revival house, after DeNiro was quite established, and it shocked the hell out of me.

I also liked the scene where DeNiro sniffs glue.

Lastly, let's give some credit to Don Stroud's great performance.

A double bill with Boxcar Bertha! Taking advantage of the whole Scorcese/De Niro team!

On the topic of favorite scenes mine was when the boys refused to kill their prisoner. After the ransom was paid their mother told them to kill they guy they had kidnapped because he was a liability and they released him unharmed pretending to kill him by firing the gun into the air and they then shook his hand.

I like that scene because it shows that there is some good in everyone even basically evil people and they could not bring themselves to kill him because all of their other murders had been in the heat of battle, kill the cop before he kills or captures you kind of thing but they could not bring themselves to execute someone.

The scene was very touching to me and made me want them to live sadly they were all killed.
