I know what went wrong with this movie!!

I saw BVD a week and a half ago (and I'm still thinking out it). I was shocked by how bad it was (to the point of loving it). I was looking through the credits on the IMDB and lo and behold, Coleman Francis was involved with this movie!!!!! Ed Wood, who? As many bad movie connoisseurs are aware, any list of worst directors of all time would be incomplete without Coleman Francis being mentioned (and somewhere near the top). My theory is that simply the presence of him near the set of this movie helped sink it.

this was probably the worst movie i've ever seen. Roger Ebert has alot of balls to criticize other movies if he co-wrote a piece of crap like this.

reply

Geez, you have the worst movie taste in the world if you think this is the worst movie you've seen, so I wouldn't say a word about Ebert if I were you.

" i'am superwoman"???? come on now this movie sucked. It tried to be all artsy but failed. I'm all for alternitve cinema (my favorite movie is Dead Man) but this was crap.

reply

"It tried to be all artsy" ? I don't think this movie tried being artsy at all. You're looking at it the wrong way. Watch some of Russ Meyer's other films and you'll see that he made movies that were cheap and fun. Meyer's films wallow in the lowest common denominator, yet rise above most standard movie fare.

the superwoman part rules and so does the rest of the movie

I think the notion that no one can develop their opinion and expertise over a 40+ year career is pretty sad and lame. We were all young and stupid once... some for longer than others.

reply

Coleman Francis is not responsible for this movie (which is great, by the way).

Badges? We don't need no stinking badges!

reply

This movie didn't sink at all! Artsy? There was nothing "artsy" about this movie and nothing about it "failed"! Come on people, what the hell kind of movie do you think this is, anyway!? Is there nobody here that has ever heard of "satire"?

Ooo, baby, your domestic gross is SO BIG. That's how I know how GOOD you are!

reply

no body apreciates cult cinema anymore. theres nothing bad about this movie at all russ meyer was *beep* great he created controversial stuff that only the special could apreciate. good on him this is his tamest but its one of his greatest. theres way more satire stuff. but i no what ur saying.

reply

Some people just don't understand satire I guess :(

reply

this movie couldnt be bad if it tryed! its so tacky and corny its terrific like all russ movies! hes a genius. and the songs in the movie where just brilliant lyrics and music just make me feel good. nothings gone wrong with this movie at all. ed wood was brilliant too just another case of people being to qucick to judge whats really good. not being offensive by the way cause i agree with most of what u said. but i love ed wood and i love russ. long live cult movies.

reply

There is nothing wrong with this movie. It's incredible.

reply

i don;t understand why people think this movie is bad - it is fantastic Russ himself said it was his most important- i think there's those that get it - and sadly those that don't .....i mustve seen it 50 times i will never be tired of it i love bvod!!!!

reply

... did we watch the same movie?

reply

Yes the movie is the same. It is we that differ.
If you don't think the movie is beautiful looking, brilliantly edited, and a hilarious parody of its times, well then... you are not one of the gentle people.

My god, the actors aren't allowed to blink! HIGHlarious!

I thought the part about making Z Man a woman should have been cut. That's what makes this film just a 9 rather than an Oscar-worthy 10. But everything else in the film is perfect. Even Lance's reaction to the breasts, even though I don't like the plot point, is awesome. Just a great, great film.

reply

Z-Man being a woman elevated it from a 9 to a 10 for me. The only logical place for the movie to go was even more over the top and I would have been disappointed with anything else.

reply

I seen this film twice but it appears the last 2 posters don't believe in spoiler alerts and don't care if they ruin the ending for those who haven't seen it yet. Tacky.

reply

Movie came out 38 years ago. I don't really think a spoiler warning is completely in order. If one hasn't seen the movie why would one be carlessly perusing a discussion thread about where it went wrong and still care that a very minor, totally inconsequential part of the ending is given away? And further more, Darth Vader is Luke's father, Rosebud is the sled, and Bruce Willis was a ghost the entire time.

reply

this movie couldnt be bad if it tried! its so tacky

This movie is great if you watch it like a comedy. That scene with Z-man and the blond guy was hilarious.
