I still think that the bomb only killed all life on earth turning it into a wasteland instead of blowing it to pieces,what the apes saw was the blast of the bomb that caused the shockwave and pushed them back in time.

Taylor and Brent theorized that the bomb would fry the planet to a crisp, but not break the planet apart.
