Coyote Goof?

It's a small but -- to me -- blatant goof, so I was surprised not to see it listed among the goofs here, and I decided to post here first in case I am wrong about something.

In the final shot of the film [slight spoiler] the wayhouse is abandoned, and a coyote is shown sniffing around the equipment and things left behind. But to my eyes this coyote is clearly wearing a big collar. Some may say that it's just a black band of fur, but it's clearly more than that: it's a large collar.

I can only imagine Peckinpah thought it wouldn't be noticeable, but it very much is. Anyone else spot this?
