Thank Gawd Peckinpah was let go


Thank Gawd Peckenpaw was let go by Warner Bros. before they gave him Deliverance & Jeremiah Johnson. Obviously a full blown alcoholic by the time he trashed this movie. It could have been so much better. Way over rated.

Perhaps the poster above doesn't know that author James Dickey lobbied Warner Bros. hard (although unsuccessfully) for hiring Peckinpah to direct DELIVERANCE.

Personally, I'll always be grateful that THE BALLAD OF CABLE HOGUE got to be one of the few Peckinpah pictures released without meddling from studio or producer. This is a wonderful movie; and as I always say below ...

Most great films deserve a more appreciative audience than they get.
