A great movie, and a great performance by Shatner

One must see this. All those who think Shatner cannot act will eat their words. He's at once, sarcastic, caustic, and dashing. He systematically rips apart Basehart's Commandant and really shines. All of the supporting characters are well done, as well.

The movie itself is horrifying because it shows how the US tops the Nazis with inhumanity. It's unforgettable.

Shatner is often overlooked and denigrated because of the mannerisms he sooften used in Star Trek. Keep in mind that, for the most part, although given a ion's share of the lines, Kirk was often less interestingly written that the characters around him. Give Shatner credit for making the character of Kirk distinctly his. The performances in The Andersonville Trial are universally solid and well textured. None moreso that Shatner's which is the perfect balance to Jack Cassidy's defense attorney.

For a darker, more cynical, and in many ways fascinating performance check out his all-too brief role of Bill Parkins in the TV series, "Amy Prentiss." Crashing a party and asking a society beauty if she wanted to play with his handcuffs is priceless.

Comparing the US Civil War soldiers with Nazis is not only absurd, it reveals that you are not a very smart person.
If you care to explain how you came to that conclusion, that would fun.
