Groovie Goolies' Music

Does anyone know where I could find the music featured on Groovie Goolies?

reply

The only thing that was ever available was an LP called the "Groovie Goolies". It has most of the songs but not the theme song! good luck finding it, though. Daddy Dew Drop recorded a song in 1970 called, "Chick-A-Boom"(Don't cha jus' love it?) which was also featured on the Groovie Goolies show. Hope that helps. It's great to find someone that loves (and remembers) the Goovie Goolies.

My family and I were listening to a classic Rock station from Spokane, WA. (101.1 fm) and they played "Chic-A-Boom" God I haven't heard that song for ages and my wife and I sang along to the radio (of course our two boys thought we were nuts). I remember an episode of Sabrina and the Groovy Ghoulies where they played that and I seem to remember that in the cartoon they got to the third door as it is in the song and the beautiful woman turned out to be a Witchy Poo (comic ugly) type witch that even frightened the Ghoulirs. Hilarious!

The name of the woman behind the third door was "Hagatha Hex." Every time I hear "Chick-A-Boom," I always think of that vignette.

The original Daddy Dewdrop hit version (the master tape of which is now owned by Universal Music Group) last appeared on a Rhino compilation CD, Super Hits of the 70's: Have a Nice Day, Volume 5. Unfortunately, that too is out of print, but perhaps a copy of that disc can be found on Ebay, as possibly could the Groovie Goolies LP. (Sony Music Entertainment now owns the master tapes of the Goolies' lone album; those must be buried somewhere deep in Sony's vaults as it has never been reissued. Shout Factory or Real Gone Music, are you listening?)
